Happy Friday! + weekly roundup

Happy Friday! This week was spent mostly in bed, nursing a cold and resting up for an exciting holiday week. We're Colorado bound to celebrate Thanksgiving in style and I couldn't be more excited for the change of scenery. Big plans are on the horizon friends and a getaway is just the thing to get me feeling inspired and rejuvenated enough to take it all on. I'll be taking a break from blogging while we soak up the snow. Since I won't be around to wish you a happy Turkey Day, this is me popping in to tell you just how thankful I am for all of your support and love. My life wouldn't be the same without this wonderful corner of the web and I am so grateful to do all of the things I love and to share them with you!

While we're away, here are a few recent links I'm loving:

a dreamy Free People lookbook
the prettiest look at Lack of Color's Spring 2016 line
Local Milk's gorgeous Thanksgiving table via Anthropologie (and this one too!)

Our Wedding: Dinner + Dessert

The dinner portion of our wedding was one of the most fun parts of the night! So much love, attention to detail and wonderful flavor went into every single thing we tasted and I can't tell you how fun it was not to partake in a run of the mill buffet. To me, eating has always been about people coming together and catching up. There's a special kind of magic that happens around the dinner table each night and we set out to mimic that feeling at our wedding. With one long farm table, 80 of our sweetest friends and The Confeastador's yummy creations we were able to connect everyone in our lives.

It was such a pleasure working so closely with The Confeastador taco truck in the months leading up to our day (I mean, how adorable is it!?) to come up with interesting flavors that accommodated everyone. We even dreamed up a vegan option and although I was too busy running around giving hugs to sit and enjoy a leisurely dinner (isn't that always how it goes?), what I tasted was delicious!

Ready to talk cake?! My sister Hannah (Wander & Whisk) is a truly talented pastry chef and we're so incredibly grateful to her for making our cake table so fun and special. She came through with not one but FOUR amazing cakes, each one more tasty and carefully thought out than the last. The flavors she whipped up included: blackberry champagne, espresso toffee dulce de leche, lemon lavender and dark chocolate with salted caramel drizzle. I'm getting hungry just thinking about all that sweetness! Ainsworth's grandma even brought along her famous Jamaican rum cake and we all had a giggle when the little kids found their way to the spiked dessert.

Our Wedding: Ceremony

"What you find in a soulmate is not something to tame but something to run wild with."

Our ceremony was magical! Not to say that everything went perfectly as planned (it did not) but the things that were out of our control made it so much more special.

A little back story: as a pretty liberal (but spiritual) couple, we tossed around the idea of a religious ceremony for about 2.5 seconds. Instead, we wanted someone to officiate who knew us and would saturate the ceremony with personal details. We asked my dad, a smooth talker and the sweetest, gentlest man to lead things for us. As it turned out, Tennessee is one of the only states that does not recognize those ordained to perform wedding ceremonies online. We considered looking for a replacement at the last minute but by that time I was pretty sold on the idea. We moved forward with our plans to be married by my dad and compromised on a tiny (Ainsworth, Lorelai and I + a minister and a stranger witness) civil ceremony at the courthouse the day before our "wedding". Even though it wasn't what I had spent years dreaming of, getting married before our wedding was one of the biggest gifts. We were able to be fully present and calm on Friday and when Saturday rolled around all of the stressful details fell away. What could go wrong? We were already married!

We shrugged off any chance of late summer rain in the weeks leading up to our wedding day and continued with our plans full steam ahead. The hours leading up to our outdoor ceremony were peaceful, a few sprinkles here and there but nothing that discouraged us from exchanging vows beneath a pretty little chuppah that would provide little shelter. The second my dad and I left the cover of that sweet house however, the clouds rumbled and it began to pour. Rain fell our entire way down the aisle and it continued to drizzle all the way through our ceremony (which was cut short because our vows began to bleed together and my dad’s script was wrecked). There was something so peaceful about the rain, almost as if all the fear, nerves and other feelings were washed away. It was the universe’s way of saying, “Look, even when things aren’t perfect and even when it storms you are choosing each other.”

After all was said and done, Ainsworth and I exchanged traditional vows at a record speed. My dad's script bled in the rain and we rushed through a short introduction and skipped the readings altogether. It was so unconventional but it was so us!

Ainsworth was so worried that the rain would stress me out and he kept whispering, “It’s all going to be okay. Everything is fine.” but I knew it was. I was just so happy to be marrying my best friend that it could have been hailing and I wouldn’t have noticed. My bridesmaids improvised an umbrella made of bouquets and we kept it going!
