Living Room Updates + Inspiration

It's taken us a while to get settled into our rental home (we're still not quite there yet) and find a place for everything in our furniture/decor arsenal. Unfortunately, there are a few things that are less than perfect about the space (think renters' beige paint which will be changing soon, issues with the landlord/handyman combo and a not-so-ideal feng shui situation) but we're loving the close-to-the-park location and the ease of having our own backyard. One of the rooms I'm having the most trouble with is the living room! In preparation for the move we upgraded our couch to this statement piece from ikea, picked up this fun globe lamp and brought out the moroccan pouf but we still need to switch out the coffee table (The wooden one we have now was made for a much bigger space and is dragging down the space. Look for a roundup of options soon!) and invest in a little art for personality.

What updates have you made to your living space lately? What do you think our room needs?

Thank God for the weekend! I couldn't be more excited for a little extra shut eye over the next couple of days and time to keep settling in to our new place. There might even been a few coats of fresh white paint in my future and I'm not mad at it!

Top 5 Fashion Trends for 2016

Trends can be tricky to navigate, especially when you're trying to hone in on your personal style like I've been doing lately, but sometimes it's fun to inject a little of-the-moment fun into your wardrobe. Since we're well into 2016 (how is it almost March?!) the trends that are sticking around this year have finally risen to the surface and are easily accessible for all of my like-minded shoppers. Keep reading for a few of my tips for working trends into your closet and a roundup of my top five styles to play with this year:

Be discerning. Trendy items are big fun but they won't always work for you. If something doesn't fit into your style, skip it (unless you want to experiment a little and then I say, "Go for it friend!" If you hate something, take a pass.

Don't splurge. Invest your money in pieces that will work for you over and over again. This probably doesn't include trendier items that will become passe in a year.

Have fun! Experimenting with your style should be joyful. Try your hardest to have fun with dressing and don't take it all too seriously.

T H ES K I N N YS C A R F // I've been seeing these cool-girl accessories EVERYWHERE lately! When thinner scarves first came one the scene last year I thought, "I'm never wearing a skinny scarf!" but I've been converted. I picked up the Who What Wear x Target version this week and have already got big plans for this retro throwback piece.

R A WE D G ED E N I M // A little fraying never hurt nobody! Long gone are the days of clean lines and perfect hems. This year I'm excited to see the raw edges on everyone and at home in my own closet. There's something so chic about juxtaposing a messy hem and a fabulous shoe!

L A C EU P // Laces are in, be it on a great top or an even better shoe. This trend has been making its rounds for a while and I don't see it going away any time soon. Lately I'm absolutely obsessed with lace-up bodysuits under skirts and high-waisted denim and ankle tie flats (for days spent slinging wedding dresses). Bonus points for pairing your lace-up with a furry jacket.

S L I PD R E S S E S // A little bit sexy, a little bit model off duty. I love silk slip dresses paired with tough leather or badass shoes. There's nothing better than wearing clothes reminiscent of lounge wear and slips are the ultimate undone outfit choice. Get ready to see silk everywhere this Spring.

W E S T E R NB E L T S // The western belt is another accessory I added to my arsenal this week. I'm smitten with the way they dress down dressier items and elevate basics. Celebrities and my favorite bloggers alike have been rocking similar styles for a while and I excited to play!

What trends are you loving/predicting for 2016?
