Holiday Gift Guide: For Her

It's finally time... Hazel + Scout holiday gift guide time! The holidays are my favorite time of the year for many reasons but I have to admit, pouring through the shops I love to bring you all of my top gift picks is definitely somewhere near the top of that list. Over the next couple of weeks I'll be rounding up the best presents from several different categories (for little ones, for him, for the homebodies on your list, etc.) but if there's someone you're having a hard time shopping for, let me know! I'd love to tailor the guides even more for you.

This gift guide is especially sweet for all of the lovely ladies in your life. Your mom, your best friend, yourself... you name it. I might have taken cues from my own wish-list this year but I pride myself on knowing exactly what I want for good reason. With pretty wardrobe staples (a beautiful sweater for the upcoming cold weather, a classic leather jacket or this year's most lust-worthy bag) and a couple of tech-y bits that are topping my list, there's something for every type of lady that you love. My top three this year? A sentimental locket, an ipad pro and a vintage film camera for all of those dreamy holiday moments.

What's on your wish-list?

Travel Inspiration: Thailand
photo.jpeg

Two weeks! Our trip is now officially two weeks away and as far as I'm concerned, it's crunch time. Our bags are awaiting their filling fate, my mind is pretty permanently on a Thai beach somewhere and my Google Doc is looking rather official (if I do say so myself). Since I shared our plans for a two week stint in Japan (here), I thought I'd also let you know what we're hoping to see in Thailand. Where the Japan leg of our vacation is fast-paced and packed with a ton of sites, Thailand should be a little more relaxed with a few more adventures. Here's what's on my must-do list:

spend eight nights in bangkok
rent scooters and explore the city
float along and shop the floating market
get up close and personal with a tiger (cruelty free)
see as many buddhist temples as possible
get a sacred tattoo done by a monk
spend christmas and new years in paradise
venture to phuket
visit monkey (phi phi) island and the 007 island
spend two days and a full night with elephants
walk through the rice paddies
shop the night bazaar in chiang mai
massages every day
meet the long-neck karen tribe
relax on the beach

What does our trip mean for the blog? I'll be putting out my holiday content over the next couple of weeks and taking our vacation time off from content creation. It'll be such a welcomed break but I promise to come back with a ton to share. If you're interested in keeping up with me in real time, you can always follow along on Instagram for more frequent posts. Until then, stay tuned for a lot more gift guides, a few more personal posts and my December mood board + soundtrack. There's plenty left to come in 2017!

Everything I'm Thankful For This Thanksgiving
image1.jpeg

What a year with so much to grieve and so much, at the same time, to be thankful for. If you had told me last November what my life would look like in just twelve short months, I would not have believed you. I am a different person than I was then, changed and molded by milestone upon milestone. With so much upheaval I can’t help but be thankful at every turn.

Thankful for my family. For a husband who continues to stand by me no matter how the tide comes in. Thankful for Lorelai, who though she doesn’t know it, makes up my entire world and houses it in her tiny but strong body. For the chance to spend time with her and teach her. To watch her grow and develop her own views of the world. For my sister, the only soul that knows my every qualm with this world and has the uncanny ability to meet me at every emotion and feel it with me. For my father, who is stoic and proud but sensitive and unfailing in his search for what is right and good. Thankful for my mother and all the little ways the memory of her permeates my day. For a relationship with her that is now sweeter and stripped of all hardship. For the ability to look back at it all fondly and with longing instead of regret and sadness. For the bad days too because they remind me that I’m not infallible.

I’m thankful for a new home and new adventures that will stay with us for a lifetime. For this small and sometimes lonely island and all of the wonder it allows each and every day. For heartbreaking sunsets and palm lined quiet streets to bike down. For the stories that will follow from our time stranded in the Pacific.

For new friends. For old friends. For the wisdom to know when it’s time to step away from friends and protect my own heart at all expense.

Thankful for passion and interests and things that make me excited about the future. For plans. For surprises. For surprises that should have been the plan all along.

I’m thankful for a world climate that awoke something in me I always knew was there but was too privileged to tap into. For the ability to speak my mind and take a stand. For sympathetic souls and people who continue to challenge me. For a place, like this, to use my voice. For the freedom to think for myself.

Mostly I’m thankful for the journey. Thankful that although this path may not always be smooth, it is uniquely mine. I’m thankful for the chance to see another Thanksgiving and the reminder of how grateful I really am of this life, despite its imperfection.

Happy Thanksgiving from me to you. What are you thankful for?
