In Defense of White Walls

Whew... I'm wiped out! I've been in the middle of a painting frenzy lately and slowly our house is turning white (err... "Bohemian Lace"... how fitting). There's something so calming and crisp about white walls and I love that they make the perfect blank slate for interesting accents and layered textures. Initially, when we first rented our new house, it was a drab shade of "renters beige". Even though painting is forbidden in our lease (please don't hate me landlady, I promise it'll be so much more open and we'll paint it back to beige when we leave), I knew I'd have to give the walls a couple of coats of fresh white to even begin to feel settled into our space. Here's to white walls and making them our own!

It finally feels like spring and I couldn't be more excited to greet a new season. While I do love winter (layers, snow days, hot cocoa...), there's something so transformative about spring! This week I'm definitely throwing the windows open, tidying our space, making lists and coveting small pops of color in my wardrobe and home. Always late to the party, I'm smitten with rose quartz and can't get enough of it in accessories and accents for around our house.

Bedroom Inspiration

Our bedroom is the place we spend the most time (relaxing, watching Project Runway marathons, sleeping, building pillow forts...) but somehow it's always the last room we get around to decorating. That probably comes from it being the only room company doesn't have to see when they pop over unexpectedly but it's in need of some new vibes to keep me sane.

In this house we have a bit more room in our master bedroom than we've had before and I'm stoked to make it our own! Bay windows and french doors that lead out to the backyard, a new mid-century bed (since ours fell apart during the move) and a duvet cover I've been stalking for months have all gotten me ready to tackle the task.

On the docket? Changing the shade of our walls to white (it might against the wishes of our landlord but fresh white paint is worth forfeiting our security deposit), creative storage solutions, spray painting all of our drawer pulls brass, ditching a few pieces of furniture (hello Craigslist!) in favor of pieces that better reflect our style and getting art up on the walls. Let's do this!
