June Mood + Soundtrack

Oh hey June, fancy seeing you here! It's officially Summer and the June Gloom has set in. Things are hot and sticky (something we should really get used to since our new island home is 87 degrees and 80% humidity every single day), we saw the first fireflies of the season in our yard last night and schools out for Summer. The beach is calling me and I've already started collecting easy reads perfect for laying out all day.

This week was a big one as far as to-do lists are concerned. We made arrangements to give the keys to our rental house back to the owner, bought our plane tickets for Hawaii and finally received an official moving date... in two weeks. We'll be in Honolulu from the 15th to the 19th and then we're crossing the international date line for good on the 20th. I can hardly believe that we'll be making our way home to another country in just two short weeks. June is going to be a big exciting month! Now to get everything in order and kick most of our belongings to the curb...

A few things I'm currently inspired by:

tropical settings
minimal summer wardrobe staples perfect for our endless summer
kids at play
relaxing beach scenes
the same old neutral color palette with a little burnt orange and golden yellow thrown in (I'm branching out, look at me!)
researching things to get up to on the island of Oahu (any suggestions?)

Taking a cue from one of my all-time favorite reads (if you don't follow her Insta stories you're NUTS... go do it and thank me later!) Bev Cooks, I'm delving back into monthly playlists on Spotify. Recently I've been building giant master playlists but I think it'll be so nice to set the scene for each month with some tunes. Head over and give June a listen, won't you?!

*p.s. Lo lost her front tooth today! How crazy is it that I have an almost six year old with a lisp and major tooth gap? I'm loosing my shit over here!

Depending on whether you ask me or my husband, the gathering of clothes, shoes, and accessories for our new beachy lifestyle is pretty fun. I've been spending most of my downtime these days online window (sometimes actual) shopping for things that I'll need once we're firmly planted in perpetual summertime. I've been imagining all of the new places we'll go and what I'll need to fit right in. Basically, I've been stockpiling sandals, jumpsuits and easy swimwear.

Coupled with my compulsive image hoarding, I thought it'd make for perfect blog fodder as we transition into Summer here in the States as well. Enter: wear // where, a series I've tried in years past and a favorite that I see floating around the blogosphere always. Some of my favorite Summer pieces paired with the perfect locale!

Strawberry Fields Forever

Since our move has been pretty up in the air for the past couple of months we had to pull Lorelai out of school a little early this year. Don't worry, the school district signed off on her "early Kindergarten graduation" but that means she's been out of school a whole month earlier than all of the other kids in her class. Since we've had the extra time together, I've tried to become a bit more diligent with getting out together and experiencing what The South has to offer (before we're ex-pats!) so that she's not wasting the days away glued to her iPad or playing in our (fun but lacking) backyard.

A couple of weeks ago this meant we set out and went strawberry picking in the hot Alabama sun. It was so much fun! The farm we chose was open for one last day of berry picking and we were the only ones there. Lo and I spent about an hour hunched over tiny bunches of sweet strawberries and made out with a whole bushel that lasted us quite a while.

I've been trying to get better at memory making / keeping lately. This means seeking out experiences that Lo and I will remember and also documenting the time with snapshots and little video clips. I suddenly feel called to keep records for our little family and love having videos like this one to look back on:

p.s. Since a lot of you have asked, I film these clips with the 8mm app on my iPhone. It's so easy and accessible when I don't feel like lugging around my big camera. The app gives everything a sun drenched vintage look that I'm really into at the moment.
